Sullom Voe Decommissioning Support, Shetlands
Sullom Voe is home to one of Europe’s largest oil terminals. Built between 1975 and 1981, the terminal receives crude oil from North Sea fields via pipeline, processes, stores and exports this by tanker.
The works involve the preparation of an estimate of the cost to decommission, demolish and remediate the oil terminal at the end of its working life. This estimate is used to determine individual owner organisations future liabilities and allows them to make appropriate provisions within their accounts.
The estimate requires careful calculation and justification of the costs to satisfy all of the stakeholders involved with the site. The work also includes assessments of ongoing operational costs to justify the early removal of redundant plant & equipment.
